Sustainable Innovations-Design Approach & Improvements
Abstract:
Sustainable
business & innovations are need of future generations. This paper aims at
filling a gap, the gap between the high-level vision of sustainability and
innovator’s and designer’s everyday work in creating new technical artifacts,
services, and businesses. The concepts of sustainability are reviewed in the
light of established product development processes, as well as with regard to a
number of current proposals for integrating sustainability in innovation
processes. The paper describes a framework for the front end of innovation.
This framework is capable of reconciling the different notions of
sustainability; simplified: “profit, people, and planet”. A case study of a
sustainable innovation is presented.
